8:30 AM to 1:30 PM
Sioux Falls Convention Center, Exhibit Hall 1

Dr. Ralph Brown, Economic Analysts & Associates from Vermillion, Professor Emeritus of Economics at USD and Chief Advisor to the Governor’s Economic Advisory Council will give an update on the state and regional economies and discuss the principles of inflation.  A workforce development panel will discuss issues including filling technical job openings, developing new workforces and ideas for coping with a shortage of workers.

Our second featured speaker, who will lead a workforce development discussion, is Dr. Paul Harrington, Director of the Center for Labor Markets and Policy at Drexel University in Philadelphia. He has authored and co-authored numerous articles, monographs, and books and taught a wide variety of courses in economics and public policy. He frequently serves as a featured speaker at conferences on education and workforce development across the nation and is often cited in media reports on labor market and economic activity.  Dr. Harrington was also part of the Workforce Summits held around the state this summer by GOED.  If you missed his presentation, you will have a chance to hear it now.  If you attended one of the Summits, you'll be able to hear his entire presentation.

In addition to Dr. Harrington, the following individuals will discuss their company's solutions to workforce issues.

Jen Schaefer, PHR, Head of People and Culture, DocuTAP, Sioux Falls will explain how they recruit and keep workers with technology skills.  David Giovannini, Senior Vice President, Molded Fiber Glass Companies, Aberdeen, will discuss his company's innovative solutions to worker shortages.
