Application Process
All written business plans must be mailed no later than February 7, 2005 to be eligible for The Governor's Giant Vision Business Awards. For more information or to request an application packet please contact the South Dakota Chamber of Commerce and Industry at 1-800-742-8112.

Participants will be notified by mail before March 7, 2005 if they are invited to the formal competition in April. All participants will be required to sign a confidentiality agreement prior to the formal competition.

2005 Competition Formal Competition
April 7, 2005, Sioux Falls, SD


Trade Show 10:00 A.M.-12:00 P.M.
Participants will be given space to set up a tabletop display area to demonstrate their business idea to judges and others attending the event. Attendees are expected to communicate their ideas in five-minute presentations or "elevator talks." These talks should convey why the idea will succeed and what is needed to make it a success. Elevator talks will be videotaped.

Mentor Luncheon Noon
All participants will be invited to attend a noon luncheon with established business leaders and finalists in ABEX (Awards in Business Excellence) program. The ABEX award is a program sponsored by the South Dakota Chamber of Commerce & Industry to recognize excellence among existing businesses. This is a good opportunity to meet successful business leaders and establish mentoring relationships.

Semi-Finalist Presentations 1:30 p.m.
During the afternoon, judges will narrow the field to ten semi-finalists. These hopefuls will give 15-minute presentations explaining the business proposal, development timelines and anticipated financing needs and returns. Semi-finalist will also participate in a five-minute question and answer session with venture capitalists and financiers.

Reception 5:30 p.m.
A joint reception for the Governor's Giant Vision Award and the ABEX awards program will be held at the Washington Pavilion. (Hors d' oeuvres and cash bar.)

Evening Formal Presentations and Award Presentations 7:00 p.m
Judges will narrow the field to five finalists who will have their videotaped "elevator talk" played before the group. The winners of The Governor's Giant Vision Award will then be announced to close the daylong competition
